Patience (Stripped)

by Brooke Annibale

There are certain songs of mine that people always ask me about after I play them at live shows. Patience is one of those songs. People seem to instantly connect with it and I love when that happens. That's why I started making music in the first place. It's a song I wrote to overcome a period of time where I needed patience the most. Now, it's one of my most requested songs throughout my recent livestream shows. Understandably, a lot of folks can relate to needing and wanting a little extra patience right now. I started wondering how I could reimagine this song from my home. I went back to the original recording and stripped a bunch of layers off until it was just vocals, piano and strings. The result, I think, has a pretty powerful and moving feeling. I hope you enjoy this reimagined stripped back version inspired by some especially trying times, and I hope you and your loved ones find patience and peace.

oh dear clarity please come
show me what has just begun
with all the hopes and fears i’ve ever known
oh and faith come back to me
once convinced once believed
now a mystery i’ll seek alone

if i’ve learned anything at all about this life
it’s the things that scare you the most that are always worth the time
patience, hold me, let me feel this lonely
it’s the things that scare me the most that i know i need

there will always be these doubts
things that we can’t figure out
things that we’re not meant to know for sure
oh dear patience please be mine
this will surely take some time
with perspective i will learn much more
